Bans Off Our Bodies

Bans Off Our Bodies is rallying for abortion access Saturday, May 14. We wonโ€™t let the Supreme Court put our lives and futures at risk, and we wonโ€™t be silenced while our fundamental right to control our bodies is taken away.

On May 3rd, 2022, Politico leaked a draft of a decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in the US. This does not sit well with many of us, for a plethora of reasons. So, here in Grand Rapids, my friends Laura Maier and Emily Hanlon decided to give the city an outlet to express some education, some anger, and some concern.

What: Bans Off Our Bodies Rally
Where: Calder Plaza, 250 Monroe Ave NW, Grand Rapids, MI
When: Saturday, May 14th, from 3:00-5:00PM
What to expect: Plan on being outdoors with little to no coverage. We will rally, rain, or shine (we will reach out via mobilize and Facebook if there is cancellation due to extreme weather) We will hear from speakers, chant in unity, and stand in solidarity.

Download Your Own

Obviously, not everyone can be in Grand Rapids on May 14th, 2022. Even still, there are a limited amount of posters available to hand out.

So, in an effort to make these materials more widely available, they are available for download below! They are completely free, though, I would love if you sent me photos of them in the wild!

The Aftermath

What started as a loose invite text on Sunday, May 8th, turned into an event with several hundred attendees by May 14th! What a whirlwind.

Interested to see how the city felt about it? Well, a peaceful rally that large is bound to make the news:
